Day 1: Siamo arrivati alla Venezia

Venice is beautiful! We took the water bus from the airport, so we could see much of the Grand Canal. I was imagining the city in its heyday in the 18th century when it was a major port in Europe. The buildings are mostly original and now have faded, but are still amazing.

Here we are in San Marco on one of the many small bridges used to pass over the canal.

The gondolas are for tourist rides these days. Pete got this shot of the bows from a small dock on the Molo San Marco, which is a huge walkway that's perfect for strolling.

Venice has no cars! Either you walk or boat to get around. As a result, it is a wonderful city for eating outside (no exhaust fumes). We ate both lunch and dinner outside on patios.

The sunset over the Santa Maria della Salute was gorgeous. The weather is warm, so we walked at night in shorts and short-sleeves. We are having a wonderful time.
