Day 2: Venezia e molto bella!

Today we had a full day in Venice. Our hotel has a balcony with views of the Rialto bridge and Grand Canal, which we enjoyed during breakfast.

We love walking in Venice and discovering interesting views.

The Venice Biennale, an international art show, is in progress so we went to the main exhibits area. There are pieces from most countries. This is a photo of Mexican artist Kuri's art which focuses on contrasts. Those are socks in between the rocks.

All around Venice are art installations that are part of the Biennale. This piece is a reproduction of Van Eyk's famous painting, this time made of painted eggs.

After checking out the Peggy Guggenheim museum and sculpture garden, we took a vaporetto to San Marco to tour the Opera house, La Fenice (the Phoenix). The auditorium has been beautifully restored after it was totally destroyed in a 1996 fire. Too bad we don't have time to see an opera. Here I'm in front of the opera house entrance for patrons arriving by boat.

We enjoyed dinner on the Terrace at Sangal. The restaurant is contemporary Mediteranean cuisine, and we ate wonderful seafood. Kristina had yellowtail that was seared with Indian figs (tons of tiny seeds). Pete had sardines with pureed green beans, watermelon, and shiso sprouts.
