Day 9: Bellagio e molto bello!

We left the windows open last night, so we could hear the sound of the water lapping against the shore and the clanking of the rigging against the sailboats' masts.

We are staying in a converted convent in Pescallo cove. It's on the other side of Bellagio, which means we have to climb up and down many steps when we go back and forth.

We rented kayaks and toured around the lake today. The lake is clear and calm, and we can see lots of fish near the shore. Here is a shot of Pete in front of our hotel.

There's something especially nice about exploring in a kayak. And the scenery on Lake Como is spectacular!

We've noticed some slight differences in architecture between the Veneto and Lombardy. Here there is a bit more decoration on the buildings. There's lots of new construction, but most new buildings are built in the old style.

This afternoon we toured Villa Sebelloni park, which allowed us to get to the top of the hill, to get this shot of Varenna across the latke. The park was first established in 1826, and includes over 130 different kinds of trees.

Tonight we are dining in our hotel's restaurant, La Pergola. We enjoyed the antipasto of mixed lake fish; ravioli with fish, sage, and butter; penne with tomato, tuna conserva, and zucchini; fried perch on top of rice with butter, Parmesan, and sage; and sliced flank steak with arugula and cherry tomato salad.
